ABSTRACT

A research on Effect of Public Expenditure on poverty reduction in Nigeria (1981 -2015) was carried out. The research reveals that expenditure on agriculture plays a pivotal role more than other sectors of the economy like education, transportation and health. Expenditure on agriculture has a negative relationship with poverty reduction in Nigeria while others have a positive relationship. Therefore, increase in expenditure on agriculture reduces poverty in Nigeria and therefore recommend that government should increase its funding of the sector and monitor the implementation and utilization of the funds budgeted in other sectors to ensure they significantly influence poverty reduction in Nigeria.
