DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR MONITORING CRUDE OIL BUNKERY AND SPILLAGE

ABSTRACT

The misfortune of oil spill and bunker activity has affected Nigeria too many times due to natural causes as well as negligence on the part of the oil companies failing to adhere to basic international standards in facilities installation and a clear act of sabotage in oil business. Without a proper record keeping and updates on spillage as they occur, it is always difficult for governmental bodies and agencies tasked to handle spillages, to do so effectively. To tackle these difficulties, a response was made by designing and implementing a management information system for national oil spill detention and response agency that will keep records and updates of oil spillage in order to help in quality decision making. To achieve this, Object Oriented Analysis and Design Methodology (OOADM) was used. The system was developed with Microsoft Visual Basic.Net and SQL as the database management system. The system provides decision informations regarding oil spillage  and bunker activities as well as helps them in forecasting future occurrence of such incidents.
