THE IMPACT OF INFLATION ON PRIVATE CONSUMPTION EXPENDITURE IN NIGERIA

ABSTRACT

The study examined the impact of inflation on private consumption expenditure in Nigeria for the period of 1981 to 2016 using ordinary least square econometric method. The empirical findings of the study provide evidence that there exist a positive long run significant relationship between inflation and private consumption expenditure in Nigeria. The study therefore recommended that for government to reduce the amount of money people spend and private consumption there is the need to ensure low and stable prices.
